Hello Bloggers and future bloggers! (:
Do you remember that first day of school and that that nerve-wrecking feeling of not knowing where anything is or who anyone was? You just hope to find a familiar face somewhere in the crowd and hope to fit in with some group of kids that were hopefully like you. And once you arrive to this new surrounding without any knowledge of anything beside your classes for the year. Then, out of nowhere this person walks up to you and greets your with a warm inviting smile saying "Hi My name is" and helps guide you in the right direction until you familiarize yourself with this new surrounding. Well, consider me that person. Hi, My name is Mariah, and i'm here to let you in on a few tips for those of you that are new to blogging. At first I thought this whole new experience would be extremely confusing and difficult due to the fact that i'm not at all good with technology.
Luckily, I really enjoyed using Blogger. I was very excited to start blogging since i've always had the thought of sharing my writing with other people and follow fellow bloggers for insight. So, yes you could say I took this whole experience seriously and I was a loyal follower to many other bloggers. It's great to be able to communicate with fellow bloggers and share ideas with one another.
To my benefit, blogging allowed me to share my opinion in a light that both engaged other readers while also being mindful, and interesting. However, there will be some challenges you will face when using blogger. Mine just happened to be figuring out what topic I would write about some points throughout the semester. Another one was trying to engage my readers and development in my posts because often times I was very brief in my entries. Also keep in mind to include closing thoughts in your entries and leave your audience with support and lead-in context.
Just by blogging all this semester I learned to be rhetorically aware in my entries and with my audiences. I also learned how to be more engaging in my posts and provide relatable life happenings that many people consider or address in everyday life. Blogs don't always have to be personal and constantly about yourself. There's a difference when it comes to posting personal blogs and casually professional blog entries.
Blogs not only change the whole view of communication, but it also helps analyze fellow bloggers and get a first hand glance at who they are as a person. I know just by following some of my peer's blog entries in class helped me relate in some form, whether it was from content they had blogged about or stuff we shared in common. Now I know what you're thinking. Why make friends online and not in person. Truth is, that sort of thing that be difficult especially in a hybrid course where people already know those who were in the class before your entrance into the class. But blogging did open my eyes on how technology has come such a long was in forms of communication.
Which leads to blogging being a useful tool in the classroom. It helps practice rhetoric, grammar, and overall communication skills when dealing with a wide range of audiences. You begin to learn what to say and what shouldn't be said and that helps writers in the long run. You're not only bettering yourself as a writer, but you're also opening new outlets in writing other than books, and verbal communication.
I found Blogger to be very useful in my academic endeavors in English. I recommend all writers to take a stab at blogging and widen your horizon. Who knows, you may enjoy it. And with that information, I leave you to embark on your new journey and hope to read some of your entries in the near future. (:

Blog Entry #10- Who's your daddy?
Just saw the movie Creed the other night. I didn't know exactly what to expect, all I knew was that it was a pretty popular movies in the theaters. It was honestly a pretty good movie. I'm familiar with the previous Rocky movies but I don't remember them vividly. I liked that Adonis, the main character in the film also known as Apollo Creed's son wanted to make a name for himself before he became known as the legendary Creed's son. That was quite admirable in the film.
It also links to how people that initially want something should in fact work for it. Not everything in the world is going to be handed to you, People need to work for what they want, and that in return provides a sense of appreciation for the things they do have.
You never know what you have until you have to either work for it, or you lose it. It's so easy to want something when you don't realize what it takes to get it. Hard work is always rewarded. And in the movie, it proves just that. So if you haven't seen it already, I would recommend seeing it for yourself. I've never been a big fan of boxing movies, but this movie was both attention-drawing and even had me at the edge of my seat cringing in other cases.

Blog Entry #8- Just keep Swimming
I'm sure everyone experience agitation. But isn't there a way to deal with it?
An agitated person may feel restless, anxious, worried, excited, tense and often times irritable. It's certainly an uncomfortable feeling that can cause lack of sleep, and verbal or physical aggression and it can last for any period of time.
Signs can be easily identified that not many people will realize they are doing. It can be subtle foot taps, or playing with your hair to more noticeable signs such as repeating words you've heard or talking at a relatively loud tone.
There are ways to help cure agitation however. Make sure the person feels safe and comfortable in their surroundings and help manage their mood and emotions into a more positive state. Healthy, positive communication can go a long way and help people more than you may realize. The phrase "A Smile goes a long way" is by far true when it comes to brightening anyone's day. No matter what kind of day that person has had, a warm, inviting smile can brighten anyone's day. Also, just listening helps very much too. Often times, people may just need someone to listen to what's on their mind.

Blog Entry #9- The Media Can do That?
After doing so much research on Media and how it impacts different levels of society, it has made me perceive media so much differently. Where as before, just going on Facebook alone or Instagram and seeing posts consisting of insulting yet humorous memes that we don't really consider being offensive but funny when in reality it isn't such a nice gesture but it is still taken lightly if you aren't the target. This is just one example of how the media impacts it's audience in a way that people wouldn't realize in the first place just looking at it.
Other people may use the media as outlets; and we all know someone in our personal lives that may rant about personal issues or personal accomplishments that aren't really necessary to share on social media, or perhaps worse, those people that see those post may not even be interested in what it was being posted.
There are often times where news and t.v. programs can easily make their audiences critical of the information provided. Some news channels revolve mainly around Pathos to influence emotional appeal to their audiences and make them more or less sympathetic to the matter at hand. While t.v. shows sometimes tend to sway the emotions of views by content without them even realizing it.
Friends, family and often times strangers seen on social media are caught in media's influence whether it's environmental issues made into a fuss over the media and asking for prayers or positive thoughts when the majority of people don't even know much about the issue at hand.
This just shows how easily the media can manipulate people's emotions and train of thought. It's quite surprising honestly.

Blog Entry #7- Men Will Be Men.
After reviewing the site Dumb Men, I noticed that it's purpose is to bash and lightly make fun of men and their everyday actions that seem to possibly go unnoticed on a regular basis. I feel that it is directed to make particularly female audiences laugh and provide light humor toward men, and perhaps even men themselves. The content consisted of multiple scenarios of men and a certain quality they possess. I will admit, the commercials were quite interesting and funny to watch, surely they aren't meant to be taken seriously however they do provide a little ray of light and fun humor just incase you needed a good laugh.
One commercial in particular that I watched was the Fidelity Male Bashing Commercial where they had different scenarios of men where one husband was trying to park perfectly while out with his wife and all the while at the end of the commercial it showed that the parking lot was in fact empty. Thus showing how men have it in their mind that they have to do well in whatever it is they do. Which also leads to the next section showing a father and daughter playing ping-pong and all of a sudden the dad becomes competitive and gloats over winning. Now I shouldn't say that all men are like this, and there are a handful that don't behave this way which is why I believe this site is to provide a light humor toward men and shouldn't be taken seriously whatsoever.

Blog Entry #6- It isn't the End of the World
So you and your friends are out and about for a night filled with good laughs, embarrassing memories, and maybe even a couple instances of "What the heck did I/we just do?!"
Everyone has at least one of these occurrences and hopefully they were with the perfect people in your circle of friends.
While you're out having a great night out with great company, you or one of your friends notice the perfect person sitting right across the room and the only thing running through your mind is "Wow, wouldn't it be nice to go introduce myself to that person. I have to talk to them by the end of the night." So naturally, you point them out to your friends, and of course they develop all this courage in that spur of the moment, all because it isn't them that's putting themselves in the spotlight after all, and encourage you to walk up and just talk to them.
Then, of course in that same instance, you begin to second guess everything you were just thinking and decide not to do anything at all. The only possible thing that comes to mind is to smile every time you and that person make eye-contact. All the while thinking that will be enough. Meanwhile your best friend is tired of you being a stick in the mud and declares an ultimatum; You talk to them or I'll do it for you. Five minutes pass by and before you know it thirty minutes go by and by then your friend is already walking across the room and all you do is watch with every ounce of anxiety and embarrassment thinking "What are they saying? Oh gosh, they're looking over at me!" It seems like forever until your friend comes back only to tell you that the person you've been making eye contact here and there confesses that they have a significant other. And not to make matters just a little more awkward, but calls you from across the room and says something like "I'll see you around!" as if that doesn't make things any worse. Feeling more than slightly embarrassed, and maybe even a little silly, you automatically try to recover from the embarrassment.

Every one goes through this in their lives but it isn't the end of the world, so rest assure. Girls go through it just as much as guys do. At least this way you know you have an answer and there is no "What if" questions flooding your mind that same night. And if you by chance see that same person again down the road, smile and say Hi. They were just as flattered as you would have been if the shoe were on the other foot.

Blog Entry #5- Fear the Fork!
Hello fellow bloggers!
Alright, so after reading The Arizona Republic's article about ASU offering shorter classes, it made me really excited but also a little skeptical about it. There's a bunch of things to consider both good and bad.
By instilling a shorter 7 1/2 week course over the traditional 15-week course, this would benefit those adults that have a busier lifestyle and creating more flexibility in their schedules and according to the article even make tuition a little less costly and who doesn't want cheaper tuition, right? Not only that, but these students would be able to graduate earlier as well.
This would be great, but aside from shorter class length in the semester, and lower tuition costs, what about the amount of time needed to go over certain academics more thoroughly than others?
Not everyone is alike in their learning habits and other subjects may need more class time to cover than others.
I know that certain subjects are tougher for me to grasp right away than others and that can cause some frustration for most people.
These changes would not benefit everyone, but it could certainly help a lot of people just as well. Nonetheless, the option is great to have, but it just depends on the individual in the long run.

Blog Entry #4- Rise & Shine
There are two different kind of people in the morning; the early risers that are up at dawn with the biggest smile on their face, and those who refuse to rise from their deep sleep and greet the day.
I'm definitely one of those "Morning People". No matter how late it is at night, I still manage to wake up early in the morning with a smile on my face and a cup of coffee in hand. Now, if the coffee were absent, perhaps that'd be a completely different story. It's a blessing and a curse, really. I love that I can manage to wake up so early and start my day but there is some days where I wish I could sleep in very late. Most of my friends think i'm so crazy for waking up so early every day- especially on weekends but all that means is I can have a head start to a productive day. (: Although, early mornings tend to correlate with earlier classes during the week. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm sure a lot of people feel similar to this though.
And then there are the sleepy heads that enjoy their sleep as long as they can. Which isn't a bad thing at all. In fact, I almost envy you all that can sleep for a long period of time. My sister isn't much of a morning person and she hates seeing me in the morning all happy and cheery. Her motto is "Don't talk to me until my coffee is gone", but I still wish her a good morning regardless. Sometimes she has her good days and slips a smile now and then in the mornings but it's rare. But then again, I have my days where i'm not the most attentive in the morning either, I guess it just depends.

Blog Entry #3- Is Healthier Riskier?
After a long class discussion on "Slanted Reports" it was now time for me to scour the Internet for my own findings of a slanted report. Here's what I managed to find:
According to WebMD's article Chipotle: Does a Focus on Fresh Mean More Risk? it discusses that the Fresh-Mex location has temporarily closed due to an E. coli outbreak to the chain. According to the article it mentions that two dozen people have gotten sick and nearly a third of the patients have been hospitalized due to the outbreak. Not only that, but the article also mentions that this is the third time this year that Chipotle has run into this issue. Which in reality, could make myself and other readers potentially sceptical about the chain.
What really caught my attention and led me to point out the slanted view of this article is when it stated that Chipotle was deemed to be a favorite casual fast food spot due to it's long standing commitment to using fewer processed ingredients and replaced with fresher ingredients- "What's not to love about that? Germs, apparently". This made me question whether or not Chipotle really took proper precautions with their ingredients and took all the right steps to ensure all their ingredients were stored appropriately.
The article does inform the audience that Chipotle is closed due to a food borne illness, however it does also stress on multiple occasions that this isn't the first time the chain has encountered this problem. In fact, it doesn't just give one other occurrence but two in two different states that happened within the same month. Tell me that's not saying something. If anything this article is really raising the question is Chipotle taking the right precautions in food safety? Which in terms could lead to future complications with customers to the food chain.
Now in most cases, WebMD would be considered in good standing in the credibility aspect, but this article may raise a few heads on the matter.

Blog Entry #2- Confidence is Key
Ladies, do you ever see those tiny 5'2" ladies that look amazing in heels? Not only do they look amazing but they consistently look amazing in heels every day and look perfect in size. Now, if a taller woman say 5'5"+ were to wear heels on a regular basis, she'd be referred to as an "Amazon Woman". Why is it that taller girls have a harder time wearing heels because they feel they are too tall? Well my dear, the problem isn't that you're really tall, it's just people like to make it known that you are exceptionally taller than usual which can lead most woman to be self conscious about themselves. You're just as beautiful in heels. It isn't something to be self conscious about.
Embrace your height! There's nothing more appealing than a young lady that conveys the actuality of confidence.
Now a days I see girls that will avoid heels because they don't want to tower over their boyfriends or friends more so than they already do, and that simply isn't fair. The phrase "Everyone wants what they can't have" is so true that people don't even realize it.
Girls with curly hair want straight hair, short girls want to be taller, and taller girls wish to shrink a few inches. Love every aspect about yourself and never let anyone to lead you to believe otherwise.

Blog Entry #1- Blogs Here, There & Everywhere.
Blogs are a perfect way to speak your mind. I view blogs to be a great way to express feelings and spread some light on your way of thinking. Blogs very from personal to professional. This is my first time ever being introduced to blogs and I'm actually very excited to begin this new adventure. I look forward to shedding some creativity in a respectful manner and explore other bloggers to help influence my sense of tone and diction.
As I was exploring various blogs, I stumbled across a couple of them I actually took an interest in.
One of which were Bloggess, I really liked this Blogger because of the authenticity of her beliefs. She is kind but with a mixture of a tasteful sass. And I for one, appreciate that because it reminds me a lot of myself.
Another Blogger I looked into and was intrigued by was Cupcakes and Cashmere. Emily's fashion tab completely has me in awe due to the fact that I love fashion and am always looking to boost and enhance my style every chance I can. it gives me a new look on how just a small change can make an absolute huge impact on your overall appearance. Who knew what a splash of Orange can do when paired with neutral colors when it comes to clothing- Or my personal favorite, Hunter green. But no matter the clothes you wear, or the bold lip color you chose for the day, I'm a firm believer that Self confidence is the best thing you could ever wear at all times of the day.
Not only does Emily do fashion topics, but beauty as well along with many other topics that I would definitely follow. These two bloggers I would most definitely relate to.
Now I know that there will be a critic in everyone, but there are just some bloggers that aren't for everyone. Mine just so happens to be blogs pertaining to politics or subjects to that extent. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them, and I'm open to read them, they're just not very high on my list. I love a sense of creativity in blog posts. I enjoy a painting in literature and the wonders that come along with it. Call me a dreamer, but every future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. I've stuck to that mindset and it hasn't failed me yet thankfully.

A Little bit About Me

Hello Everyone!
My name is Mariah, But my friends like to call me Ry. I'm currently a college student studying for my Associates in Nursing, and then transfer soon after to receive my Bachelor's degree. I just finished my classes to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and am happily looking forward to take my state board test to become certified. Every since I was younger I was always in the hospital setting visiting both of my parents. I guess I spent so much time roaming the halls that I just become comfortable with it all. Nurses knew me by name and when I got old enough I began volunteering there in my free time.
At first I didn't want to fall into the cliché of following in my parents footsteps in the hospital, and so I took interest in other areas of work. Law became an infatuation of mine and I thought about going to school to become a Lawyer. Then of course I had the brilliant idea of majoring in medicine for my mom and then minoring in law for my own preference. Goodness did all my advisors look at me as if I were crazy! Then when reality struck, I just accepted my fate in medicine. It was bound to happen.
I enjoy roller skating very much. For a couple years I worked at a roller skating rink and I just fell in love. It's surely a guilty pleasure of mine along with ice skating. They always said, if you know how to roller skate, you already know how to ice skate and vice versa. It's been a while since I've had the "eight wheelin' feelin" though, so now most of my time consists of burying my nose in a great book or working homework now that the college semester has come around again.
I'm very passionate when it comes to helping people. I guess that sort of become prevalent when I found myself back at the hospital and it just seemed to blossom more and more as time passed and I invested more and more time with patients. Working in the health care field I found myself gaining a better sense of appreciation and warm heartedness toward those I didn't even know because you never know when it's your time, and in that lifetime, all you want to do is make an impact in some way. And that for me was even just smiling to that one person who could have had a horrible day and your smile alone could have brightened their day even if only for a second. Life is too precious to be selfish and ill-mannered toward those who wronged you. Just smile and wish them well.
My Goals for attending GCC include finishing my prerequisites for nursing and transfer over to ASU in pursuit of my BSN. Then, upon achieving all that, my hopes are to continue on to be a doctor. Don't ask me what area yet, because I haven't thought that far ahead yet, I just need to finish getting my nursing degree before any other goal is made. I assure you however, I will accomplish these goals with the right motivation. (:
